AACS Golf Defeats St. Mary's and Glenelg
On Monday, May 1, the Varsity Golf Team defeated St. Mary's 11.5-9.5 and moved into first place in their Division.
Alex Colonna and Ryan Brophy, who both qualified for the MIAA Individuals Finals last week, led the way and took all their points at #1 and #2 to give the team 7 points.
With a point secured already from Cole Mori and a 1/2 point from Seth Dawson on the front half, the Eagles needed just 2 1/2 more points for victory. St Marys came in strong at #3 and #4 holding AACS from earning more points.
Dawson and Michael Dix teed off on the tenth hole needing to secure the 2 1/2 points. When Dix's opponent holed his ball to win the hole and keep AACS from any points, AACS sat at 8 1/2 on the board needing to get to 11 to win. Dawson sank the game-winning putt giving the Eagles the 11.5 to 9.5 win and first place in the division.
The team followed that match with a win on Tuesday over Glenelg Country School 20.5 to .5. Brophy and Colonna took 6.5 points at #1 and #2. Mori and Dawson swept #3 and #4 for 7 more and Monti Petty and Ryan Vossler anchored the effort and # 5 and #6 earning the final 7 points. Petti swept all 8 holes and finished off her match at 8 up through 8.
The team will honor their seniors, Brophy, David Sun, Vossler and Dawson, on Tuesday May 9th in their final regular season home match against St. Peter and Paul.
