AACS held its annual end of the year awards night on Wednesday, May 22. Six student-athletes received awards from the athletic department.
The first award is the Colossians 3:23 Award. The athletic department recognizes one student-athlete from each class that best exemplifies Colossians 3:23 both on and off the field. Colossians 3:23 states, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Shannon O'Ferrall (softball), Taylor Grollman (soccer, basketball, lacrosse), Luke Eberle (soccer), and Sara Nolan (cross country and track and field) were the recipients of this year's award.
The second award is the senior athlete award. The Senior Athlete Award is nominated by and voted on by all of the varsity head coaches. The award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement and leadership while at AACS. Sydney White and Justin Alford were the recipients of this award.
Sydney White played four years of field hockey and two years of lacrosse. She earned All-Conference honors all four years of high school, All-County twice, All-State once, and also to the National All-Academic team. She is the all-time leading scorer for field hockey in school history with 50 goals and 34 assists. She will be attending Lehigh University on a field hockey scholarship. She is humble, a strong Christian witness, and well respected among her peers and coaches.
Justin Alford played three years of soccer and two years of track and field. In soccer, he was named to the All-Conference team. As a defender in his junior year, he scored 15 goals which is the highest goal total by an AACS player in over a decade. In the MIAA track championship meet, he broke four MIAA records (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump, and the 4x100 relay) and received All-Conference honors. He will be attending Nova University next year. He, too, is humble, a strong Christian witness, and well respected among his peers and coaches.
